Identification of Therapeutic Targets for Neurodegenerative Disorders. 

The long term goal of my research is to elucidate molecular mechanisms which are responsible for the neuronal death and inflammation in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. The research will provide valuable information which may lead to the development of preventive and therapeutic approaches to these disorders. In particular, my interests include: 1) studying associations between specific genes and neurodegenerative disorders; 2) Using animal and cellular models for the mechanistic and therapeutic studies; 3) drug development.

The laboratory is a molecular cell biology laboratory. Most molecular and cell biology techniques performed in this laboratory include: PCR, genotyping, promoter study, cloning and expression, Southern, northern and western blotting, gel-shift assay, protein purification, immunocytochemistry, image analysis, ELISA, primary brain cell cultures, cell toxicity study, animal surgery, and analysis of transgenic mice. I have set up collaborations with clinical and basic research laboratories internationally.
